XHTML, or Extensible HyperText Markup Language, is basically a strict version of HTML. Instead of being a very flexible markup language like HTML, XHTML is very restrictive. With XHTML every element on a website should have both an opening tag and a closing tag. Basically XHTML provides an easier way to manage web documents because of its restrictive nature.
